We are proud to present Moonbeam as an official 2021 Moralis Hackathon sponsor!

Moonbeam – Official Sponsor to the 2021 Moralis Hackathon

It’s a pleasure for us at Moralis to formally announce Moonbeam as an official partner to the 2021 Moralis Hackathon. The Moralis Hackathon, which is live now and will run until its June 15th deadline, is an excellent opportunity for developers to demonstrate their skills in building Web3 applications (dApps) easily and quickly.

“We believe hackathons are an excellent way to provide developers exposure to the Moonbeam’s breadth of Ethereum compatibility features. Ivan on Tech and Moralis have an incredible reach within the Ethereum technical and non-technical community alike, so we are truly excited to be part of the Moralis hackathon as we move towards launching our seamless Ethereum experience within the Polkadot ecosystem,” declared Alberto Viera, Developers Relations Manager at Moonbeam.

”Moonbeam is a great company and a great addition to the Moralis Hackathon,” said Ivan on Tech, Founder of Moralis. ”Moonbeam understands the importance of the community, developers, and collaboration when it comes to BUIDLing the future. We couldn’t be happier to have Moonbeam on board for the Moralis Hackathon.”

Specifically, the 2021 Moralis Hackathon allows developers to build the dApps of their dreams using Moralis. Moralis makes the development of Web3 applications and dApps radically easier, as it essentially removed the need for developers to worry about setting up and managing a complex backend for their dApps. Instead, Moralis gives users access to a completely free, fully managed, and infinitely scalable backend for quickly building dApps and Web3 applications.

Contestants in the hackathon will compete for a total prize of $50,000. Following the end of Moralis Hackathon on June 15th, a jury will select three winners. The project coming in first place will win a grand prize of $30,000. What’s more, the first runner-up will be awarded $15,000, and the second runner-up will get the third prize of $5,000.

Hackathon Example Use Cases for Moonbeam

Moonbeam provides a frictionless Ethereum environment inside the Polkadot ecosystem. As such, projects can use their existing code for a multi-chain deployment and access all the users and assets available in the whole Polkadot ecosystem. Moreover, Moonbeam has several existing practical integrations that can serve as inspiration for Moralis Hackathon participants.

Nevertheless, keep in mind that it’s entirely up to you what project you want to build in the Moralis Hackathon. However, there are some existing simple dApps built with Moonbeam that can serve as inspiration. For example, one dApp deployed to Moonbeam’s TestNet, ”Moonbase Alpha”, is this example dApp to mint ERC-20 tokens. If you want to go more into the technical details of this example use case, feel free to check out its GitHub repo. Additionally, another example dApp is a sample project using a Chainlink oracle to act as a Chainlink Dashboard.

What is Moonbeam?

Moonbeam was announced in 2020 and is the easiest on-ramp for building an application on Polkadot. As an Ethereum-compatible smart contract platform, Moonbeam makes it easy to use popular Ethereum developer tools to build or redeploy Solidity projects in a Substrate-based environment.

So, what makes Moonbeam special? Some of the features that makes Moonbeam have such good Ethereum compatibility are:

  • Minimal Changes: if you have an existing contract, it will work right away with no need to rewrite or reconfigure.
  • Languages: write smart contracts in Solidity or anything that compiles to Solidity bytecode.
  • Use Existing Tools and dApp Front-Ends: connect popular tools like MetaMask, Remix, Truffle, and HardHat via a complete set of Web3 RPC endpoints. Use well-known Eth libraries such as Web3.js, Ethers.js, and Web3.py.
  • Unified Accounts, Addresses, and Signatures: use your existing Ethereum H160 accounts & ECDSA signatures to interact with Moonbeam.
  • Publish-Subscribe Capabilities: subscribe to contract events and updates about on-chain transactions, balances, and more.
